Square Enix and Dokidoki Grooveworks have unveiled substantial new details for the highly anticipated prequel, Octopath Traveler 0, set within the beloved world of Orsterra. This update introduces three new companions, expands on the innovative Path Actions system, and reveals mechanics like Amity Levels and Party Chat, alongside the thrilling new prospect of sea exploration. A free, time-limited demo with save data transfer is also now accessible.

The narrative of Octopath Traveler 0 centers on a tale of revenge and restoration involving powerful divine rings. Players will explore a rich world, encountering a vast roster of characters and shaping their own unique journey.

Three new companions join the adventure, each with distinct backgrounds and powerful abilities. Delitia, a Hunter from the Sunlands, is on a quest to find her missing brother. Her ultimate technique, Gift of the Aqeeq, weakens all enemies while simultaneously bolstering the physical stats of her entire party. Esperre, an Apothecary driven by a desire to heal, can deploy the Art of Healing to cleanse allies of negative effects and grant temporary immunity to status ailments. The flamboyant Goodwin, a Dancer and playwright known as the Shipwreck King, commands the Song of Levin to unleash persistent lightning damage on all foes over multiple turns.

Fans will be delighted to know that the original eight travelers, Ophilia, Cyrus, Tressa, Olberic, Primrose, Alfyn, Therion, and H’aanit, will also make appearances. They are joined by new main story characters such as Bargello, Richard, and Alaune. With over thirty travelers potentially available, the possibilities for party composition are nearly endless.

A cornerstone of the gameplay is the Path Actions system, which allows for dynamic interactions with the people of Orsterra. The actions available are dictated by an individual’s core values, Wealth, Power, or Fame. You can Purchase from or Hire those who value wealth, Contend with or Impress those drawn to power, and use your renown to Entreat or Recruit those seeking fame. A unique Invite function also allows you to encourage people to relocate to your personal town.

As your settlement grows, you will unlock Amity Levels. This system quantifies the bond between the protagonist and their companions. By using the “Inquire Further” action in a location called Wishvale, you can deepen these relationships. Strengthening these bonds yields valuable rewards and enhances Resident Skills, though it sometimes requires finding a character’s favorite item.

The Party Chat feature offers glimpses into the personalities and evolving relationships between your party members. These conversational vignettes trigger based on story events and your current situation. If you happen to miss any, a comprehensive log in the main menu allows you to revisit them at your leisure.

One of the most exciting new additions is the ability to embark on adventures at sea. Once you have a ship, you are free to navigate the vast oceans, discovering the mystical Middlesea and the perilous Outersea. These waters hide uncharted islands and unknown creatures, offering a completely fresh layer of exploration beyond the mainland.

For those eager to begin their journey, a free consumer demo is available on all platforms. This demo features save data carryover to the full game. Players can create their own character and experience the opening segment of the story, with the freedom to explore the starting area, develop their town, and seek out companions within a three-hour window.

Additionally, a two-disc original soundtrack is scheduled for release in December 2025. Priced at $35.99 before tax, it features all-new compositions by Yasunori Nishiki and includes a booklet with a special roundtable discussion with the music production staff.
