The BlazBlue universe is expanding to modern consoles, bringing a fresh experience to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. While many anticipated a traditional fighting game, developer 91Act has confirmed that BlazBlue Entropy Effect X will arrive in early 2026 as a roguelike action title instead. This spin-off leverages the beloved world and characters of BlazBlue but shifts the gameplay focus entirely.
Originally launching on Steam in early access during 2023, BlazBlue Entropy Effect later saw a full release. The upcoming console version, Entropy Effect X, will allow players to choose from 14 iconic characters such as Ragna, Jin, Kokonoe, Mai, and Noel, each equipped with their signature abilities. While the core roster and mechanics appear consistent with the PC original, the specific enhancements or new content that define the “X” edition remain undisclosed at this time.
Pricing for the game has been confirmed, with the standard edition set at $25 and a deluxe version available for $35. The deluxe package includes extra character color schemes, the official soundtrack, and a collection of chibi-style avatars. For collectors, physical editions will be offered for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch, though Xbox players will be limited to digital downloads only.
The last major installment in the core fighting series, BlazBlue: Central Fiction, launched in 2016 and effectively concluded the primary narrative arc. Since then, hopes for a new traditional BlazBlue game have been uncertain, especially after series producer Toshimichi Mori departed from Arc System Works in 2022. However, interest in reviving the franchise persists, Guilty Gear Strive producer Ken Miyauchi has publicly expressed a desire to work on BlazBlue again in the future.
BlazBlue Entropy Effect X is officially scheduled to launch on February 12, 2026. A new trailer has been released to showcase the game’s fast-paced roguelike action and character roster.
