IKEA is set to significantly expand its smart home offerings with the introduction of 21 new Matter-compatible products that will integrate seamlessly with Apple HomeKit and the Apple Home app. This extensive lineup includes a variety of sensors, lighting solutions, and control devices, all designed to be affordably priced. While some items represent entirely new additions to the IKEA smart home family, others are updated versions of previously available products, ensuring a comprehensive and modern ecosystem for consumers.
The lighting selection is particularly robust, featuring smart bulbs in an array of shapes, sizes, lumen outputs, and designs. Shoppers can choose between standard white and full-color spectrum options, with dimming capabilities included across the board. In total, eleven bulbs will be available in common base types like E27/26, E14/E12, and GU10. Color-changing variants are offered in each size category, with brightness levels spanning from 470 to 1,521 lumens. For those seeking a more decorative touch, clear-glass bulb styles will also be part of the collection.
A key component of the new launch is the suite of sensors designed to enhance home monitoring and automation. The MYGGSPRAY is an indoor/outdoor motion sensor intended primarily for lighting control. The MYGGBETT is a door and window sensor that detects openings and closings. For environmental monitoring, the TIMMERFLOTTE tracks indoor temperature and humidity, while the ALPSTUGA is a more advanced air quality sensor that measures CO₂ levels, particulate matter (PM2.5), temperature, and humidity. To help prevent water damage, the KLIPPBOK leak detector can be strategically placed in areas like under sinks or near appliances.
The range is rounded out with four smart plugs and several remote control options. The BILRESA remote comes in either a dual-button or scroll wheel configuration, providing users with a convenient way to manage their smart home devices. It can perform functions like dimming lights, turning them on or off, and activating pre-set scenes. The GRILLPLATS smart plug brings Matter connectivity to standard lamps and other small electronic devices, allowing them to be integrated into the smart home system.
Although specific pricing details have not yet been released, the entire product lineup is scheduled to become available in January of next year. IKEA has built these devices using the Matter-over-Thread standard. Thread is a wireless mesh networking protocol that operates on the 2.4GHz frequency band, enabling devices to communicate directly with each other. This architecture enhances both the range and the responsiveness of the smart home network. To use Matter-enabled products, a compatible smart home hub is required. For Apple users, devices such as the Apple TV, HomePod, and HomePod mini function as home hubs and also act as Thread border routers, facilitating a robust and interconnected smart home experience.
