Mini PS5 Shrinks Console by 60%, Cuts Power and Heat

▼ Summary
– The YouTube channel Not From Concentrate created a significantly smaller 6-litre version of the PS5, which is much more compact than the standard 10.4-litre model.
– This tiny PS5 build supports full-size M.2 SSDs, allowing for greater storage capacity than previous attempts and runs cooler while consuming less power.
– Testing showed the redesigned tiny PS5 draws under 220 watts and averages 50°C, compared to the stock PS5’s 230-235 watts and 59°C.
– Improved cooling is achieved through a large 3D-printed fan shroud with enhanced airflow design and Noctua fans, preventing hot air recirculation.
– Not From Concentrate offers a digital guide and 3D printing files for under $11, enabling others to build their own compact PS5.
For gamers who find the standard PlayStation 5 a bit too large for their entertainment setup, a new custom project offers a compelling solution. A YouTube creator known as Not From Concentrate has successfully redesigned the console into a remarkably compact 6-litre version, representing a significant reduction in size compared to the original 10.4-litre design. Even the official PS5 Slim model, which measures around 7.5 litres, is notably larger than this custom build.
This marks the creator’s latest effort in miniaturizing the popular console, but this iteration brings substantial improvements. A key upgrade is the support for full-size M.2 SSDs, dramatically increasing the potential storage capacity for a user’s game library. Beyond just saving space, this tiny PS5 also operates more efficiently, consuming less electricity and generating less heat than the stock version.
During performance testing, the standard PS5 was recorded drawing between 230 and 235 watts of power, with its temperature averaging a warm 59 degrees Celsius. After the redesign, the miniature console’s power consumption dropped to under 220 watts, while its average temperature fell to a much cooler 50 degrees Celsius. This enhanced thermal performance is no accident.
The secret to its cooler operation lies in a custom-designed, 3D-printed fan shroud. This component is so large it had to be printed in four separate sections and assembled. It features a larger air intake and deep channels surrounding the fan to significantly improve airflow. Further aiding temperature management is a neoprene gasket that seals against the cover panel, preventing hot air from recirculating inside the case. The build also incorporates high-performance Noctua fans to ensure components stay chilled.
For a modest fee of under $11, aspiring modders can purchase a digital download to create their own 6-litre PS5. The package includes a comprehensive illustrated guide, the necessary .STL files for 3D printing all the custom parts, and a complete hardware list for sourcing the remaining components. The finished product sports sleek aluminium panels with a Cerakote finish, resulting in a sophisticated, albeit traditionally black, aesthetic. While it forgoes the console’s iconic white “wings,” it reclaims a considerable amount of space, making it an attractive project for those wanting a powerful, space-saving gaming centerpiece.
