The legendary Halo franchise is officially launching on PlayStation 5 for the very first time, marking a major expansion for the iconic series. Unveiled during the Halo World Championship, the upcoming release titled Halo: Campaign Evolved is a complete ground-up remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved campaign. This modernized version will be available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S next year, with Game Pass subscribers gaining day-one access.

Developed using Unreal Engine 5, the project brings a substantial visual and technical overhaul. Players can expect high-definition graphics, refined control schemes, and expanded cooperative options—two-player splitscreen on consoles and online co-op supporting up to four players across console and PC. The remake also introduces three entirely new missions, a broader selection of weapons and vehicles, and additional enemy types to encounter.

For newcomers, the story begins as the super-soldier Master Chief crash-lands on a massive ringworld called Halo. Teaming up with surviving human forces and his AI partner Cortana, he battles the alien Covenant alliance while uncovering the installation’s terrifying purpose—a threat that could wipe out all life in the galaxy.

Executive producer Damon Conn explained the decision to revisit the original campaign, stating, “We wanted to start where it all began, with the original campaign that defined Halo. Beginning here allows new players to experience the story from the very start and helps us plan future Halo narratives.” He emphasized that focusing purely on the campaign enables the team to fully capture the atmosphere, emotional weight, and iconic feel that made the first game so memorable.

Players will have access to nine additional weapons drawn from across the Halo series within the Campaign Evolved experience. Iconic armaments like the Energy Sword, Battle Rifle, and Needle Rifle will be usable in the original campaign setting for the first time. New vehicle options are also included, with players able to hijack and pilot the Covenant Wraith tank—another series first for a campaign mode.

Director Max Szlagor highlighted improvements based on community feedback from earlier releases. “We learned from Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary that players wanted better wayfinding, navigation, and more variety in enemy engagements,” he noted. Specific attention was given to The Library mission, known for its repetitive Flood encounters. The team adjusted the pacing, enriched environmental storytelling, and added new dialogue for the AI character Guilty Spark to better guide and inform players through the level.

Conn expressed enthusiasm about introducing Halo to a wider audience, saying, “We’re thrilled to bring Halo to those who may not have played it before. At its heart, Halo is about connection, and we’re excited to meet a new generation of players on their preferred platforms.” He stressed that the goal isn’t to alter the series’ legacy but to offer a deeper, more immersive entry point. “This is Halo for everyone,” he affirmed.
