With the highly anticipated November 14 release date for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 drawing near, Treyarch has unveiled a substantial set of multiplayer adjustments directly shaped by player feedback from the recent beta. A new Dev Talk video detailed significant revisions to movement mechanics, perk distribution, and the controversial aim-assist system, all designed to refine the core gameplay experience.

One of the most impactful reversals concerns the Dexterity perk. Initially, players were required to equip Dexterity to aim down sights while sliding or diving, a stark departure from the fluid movement in Black Ops 6. Following widespread community criticism, Treyarch’s associate design director Matt Scronce confirmed this restriction is being lifted. Dexterity will no longer be a mandatory requirement for aiming during slides and dives, though equipping it will still provide a speed boost to those actions.

Movement tuning extends beyond Dexterity. The developers are implementing a slower slide with a reduced overall distance. Scronce emphasized that while the slide “still feels great and fluid,” the goal is to ensure it isn’t the singular, dominant method for initiating combat. Conversely, mantling speeds are receiving a universal buff. The team is reviewing every mantle point in the game to guarantee consistent, faster, and more fluid climbing animations after players reported that some felt sluggish.

The entire perk system is undergoing a major reorganization. A common beta complaint was the over-concentration of powerful perks in the first equipment slot, which limited build diversity. To address this, Treyarch is redistributing perks across different slots. For instance, Tac Mask has been moved from slot 1 to slot 2, Tac Sprinter shifts from slot 3 to slot 1, and Cold-Blooded is now found in slot 3 instead of slot 1.

Furthermore, several underused perks are being merged to create more compelling and powerful options. The Shadow perk is being combined with Engineer, granting players the ability to both see enemy equipment and move past it without setting it off. For close-quarters specialists, the Bruiser and Close Shave perks are being fused, offering increased health regeneration and bonus score for melee kills.

Aim assist is also receiving targeted adjustments based on data collected during the beta. The analytics showed a clear imbalance: controller players were consistently winning close-range engagements, while mouse-and-keyboard users dominated at longer distances. To create a more level playing field, Treyarch is modifying rotational aim assist. The new system will require the right thumbstick to be actively moving in the direction of a target for the aim assist to engage, potentially raising the skill ceiling for controller aiming.

These multiplayer updates join other major announcements for Black Ops 7. In a significant policy shift, Activision has canceled the Carry Forward program. This means that weapons, operator skins, and most cosmetic items from Black Ops 6 will not transfer to the new title, with the sole exception being some Zombies content. Additionally, the publisher confirmed that Black Ops 7 will launch with minimal or no Skill-Based Matchmaking (SBMM), a change long requested by a segment of the community to recreate the more casual matchmaking feel of older Call of Duty titles.
