Ford’s Mustang Mach-E continues to make waves in the electric vehicle market, outpacing its gasoline-powered counterparts in recent sales figures despite no longer qualifying for the $7,500 federal EV tax credit due to its Mexican assembly. To maintain this positive trajectory, Ford has unveiled a fresh special edition model that pays tribute to a celebrated chapter in the Mustang legacy.
The newly announced Ford Mustang Mach-E GT California Special draws inspiration from the limited-run 1968 Mustang California Special. This modern electric interpretation introduces several exclusive updates, including revised exterior styling, unique wheels, custom interior graphics, and a brand-new paint option.
Ford’s design team aimed to capture the bold aesthetic of the original California Special Mustangs, known for their striking red and black palette, while adapting it for the Mach-E’s contemporary form. Instead of red and black, the vehicle now sports Rave Blue, a color Ford describes as reminiscent of California’s coastal waters.
Additional exterior changes include the removal of side scoops, the addition of 20-inch carbonized gray wheels featuring a printed GT/CS logo, and glossy black aero wheel covers. Up front, an illuminated Rave Blue pony emblem graces the grille, complemented by a special hood graphic also inspired by the coastline. Ford emphasized that the goal was not to replicate the two-door Mustang’s design, but to establish a unique identity for the Mach-E within the broader Mustang family.
Built on the foundation of the Mach-E GT performance package, the California Special delivers an EPA-estimated range of 280 miles, 480 horsepower, and 700 lb-ft of torque. Pricing starts at $55,890, representing a $2,495 increase over the base Mach-E GT’s $53,395 sticker price. Orders for this new performance EV open on October 22nd, with initial deliveries expected to reach dealerships in the first quarter of 2026.
