– In the Renegades expansion, Unstable Cores will be removed entirely as infusion currency, Featured Gear will provide flat bonuses, and there will be no seasonal Power Level increases.
– These changes come as Destiny 2 faces historically low player numbers, with Bungie attempting to win back players through system reversions and promotional bundles.
Bungie has made a significant decision to reverse many of the core changes introduced with Destiny 2’s Edge of Fate expansion, responding directly to community feedback and setting the stage for the upcoming Renegades release. This move marks a notable shift in strategy for the developers, who initially implemented sweeping overhauls to nearly every major system in the game just a few months ago.
The Edge of Fate update arrived in July as arguably the most substantial transformation Destiny 2 has ever undergone. It brought a comprehensive Armor 3.0 system, a new Gear Tier framework, adjustments to armor statistics, and an infusion process relying on a fresh currency known as Unstable Cores. Perhaps the most impactful addition was the Portal, a centralized hub designed to manage power progression across all game activities. Bungie also reworked longstanding mechanics related to Power and Deltas, while introducing Featured Gear rotations for certain exotic items.
Three months later, player pushback has prompted a series of dramatic reversals. Many of these foundational changes are already being undone, with further adjustments confirmed for the Renegades expansion launching next month.
A detailed infographic created by community member CourtProjects, titled “The Great Edge of Fate Walk Back,” documents all major reversals either implemented or planned. This comprehensive tracking tool reflects announcements current through October 2025 (Update 9.1.5.1), though the list may expand as additional changes emerge.
Key reversals already in effect include rolling back Power and Delta overhauls to restore the previous activity Delta system. The requirement that only Prime engrams could advance maximum leveling thresholds has been eliminated. Various sandbox adjustments affecting exotics like Strongholds and Chromatic Fire have been reverted.
Substantial changes to Raids and Dungeons have also been reversed, including removing the -10 Delta modifications, improving Desert Perpetual tiered loot, eliminating triumph requirements for tier increases, and lifting exotic farm limitations on legacy raids and dungeons. Players can now launch Conquests activities multiple times instead of being restricted to a single attempt.
Featured Gear score bonuses no longer contribute to Portal scoring, with these benefits now permanently active. Portal scores and rewards now calculate based on Base Power rather than equipped Power. Additionally, the Unstable Cores economy has been adjusted, dramatically reducing infusion costs.
Looking ahead to Renegades launching December 2, further significant changes are confirmed. Featured Gear bonuses will be standardized with flat percentage increases, 5% for weapons and 10% for armor, replacing the previous tier-based scaling system. All exotic gear will automatically qualify as Featured Gear without rotational limitations. Unstable Cores will be completely removed as an infusion currency, and seasonal Power resets previously planned for every six months have been canceled. Notably, Renegades will not include any Power Level increase.
These policy reversals arrive during a challenging period for Destiny 2, with player counts reaching historic lows surpassing even the difficult Curse of Osiris era. Bungie appears focused on rebuilding community trust, recently offering a comprehensive $35 charity bundle through Green Man Gaming that includes every major expansion. The developer has also shared previously unseen concept art revealing early visions for Pyramid ships and Cloud Striders.
The overall picture shows Bungie actively addressing player concerns by walking back numerous controversial Edge of Fate features. This responsive approach suggests the developers are listening carefully to community feedback as they prepare for the next chapter in Destiny 2’s evolution.
