John Cable, vice president of program management for Windows servicing and delivery, explains that the 25H2 update includes all the features previously announced for Windows 11 version 24H2. Both versions operate from a shared code base and servicing branch, which helps streamline the update process. This shared foundation also means Microsoft will continue to deliver new features every month to users of both Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2.
Behind the scenes, version 25H2 introduces meaningful security enhancements. Cable notes that the update incorporates significant advancements in build and runtime vulnerability detection, along with AI-assisted secure coding. These improvements are part of Microsoft’s effort to address and mitigate security threats in line with a strong security development lifecycle policy.
In addition to security, the update reduces system footprint by removing PowerShell 2.0 and the Windows Management Instrumentation command-line (WMIC). To install the update immediately, users should enable the “get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” option in Windows Update. However, Microsoft may temporarily block the update on devices with potential application or driver incompatibilities.
