Minecraft’s upcoming Mounts of Mayhem update, scheduled for Holiday 2025, promises to transform combat with a fresh weapon, an aquatic mount, and redesigned enemy encounters. Players who find nighttime survival overwhelming against waves of hostile mobs will soon have new tools and challenges to master.
A key addition is the spear, a versatile weapon designed for both close-quarters fighting and mounted engagements. Its unique damage mechanic scales with the user’s velocity, rewarding players who build momentum before striking. This feature encourages aggressive, high-speed tactics when confronting enemies.
Exploration beneath the waves receives a significant upgrade with the introduction of the nautilus as a tamable underwater mount. By offering pufferfish, players can befriend these creatures to navigate ocean biomes more efficiently. The nautilus provides a dual advantage: accelerated swimming speed and preservation of the player’s existing oxygen supply, reducing dependence on enchanted breathing apparatus. Discoverable nautilus armor sets, available in copper, iron, gold, diamond, and netherite variations, will further enhance underwater capabilities.
These new assets will prove essential against updated hostile mob configurations. While the zombie nautilus itself remains neutral, it serves as a mobile platform for drowned mobs armed with tridents and hostile intent. On terrestrial terrain, zombie horses appear as new spawns that, although passive alone, come mounted with spear-carrying zombie riders.
Alongside the Mounts of Mayhem preview, Mojang confirmed several other developments. The Copper Age update arrives next week, while the educational Friendly Fishing add-on and a surprise Dragon Ball Z collaboration are also in active development.
