Apple has officially unveiled the iPhone 17 series, introducing a host of significant upgrades that elevate the user experience, particularly with the inclusion of a ProMotion display in the base model for the very first time. This move signals a major step forward in making premium features more accessible.

The standard iPhone 17 now features a 6.3-inch screen, a slight but noticeable increase from the 6.1-inch display on its predecessor. The standout enhancement is the adoption of ProMotion technology, which enables a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. Thanks to LTPO (low-temperature polycrystalline oxide) technology, the display intelligently adjusts its refresh rate to conserve battery life without sacrificing fluidity. Outdoor visibility receives a major boost as well, with peak brightness reaching an impressive 3,000 nits. For added durability, the screen is shielded by the new Ceramic Shield 2, offering improved scratch resistance.

Under the hood, the device is driven by a powerful 3nm A19 processor, which includes a specialized display engine to efficiently manage the advanced visual capabilities. Photography sees meaningful improvements too, with a new 48-megapixel ultrawide camera joining the setup. This configuration supports 2x optical telephoto and enhances macro photography, providing greater versatility for shooters.

Selfie enthusiasts will appreciate the upgraded front camera, now equipped with an 18-megapixel square sensor. This design allows users to capture selfies in various formats without changing the phone’s orientation. Apple also highlights improved video stability and the inclusion of Center Stage, which keeps users perfectly framed during video calls.

The iPhone 17 will be available in an array of appealing colors: lavender, mist blue, black, white, and sage. Pricing begins at $799 for the 256GB model, marking a shift from the previous generation’s 128GB entry point. While the base storage has doubled, the effective price for a comparable storage tier remains consistent with earlier models.

Preorders for the iPhone 17 open this Friday, with availability starting September 19.
