Life360 has just unveiled a new no-show alert feature, designed to notify users when a family member or friend fails to arrive at a specific location by a scheduled time. This update aims to ease the burden of constant manual location checks, offering a more automated and less intrusive way to ensure loved ones’ safety.

The timing of this rollout aligns with the back-to-school period, a season when parental concern over children’s whereabouts tends to spike. Rather than sending repeated “where are you?” messages, parents can now rely on automated alerts to confirm their child has reached school or other designated spots safely.

Setting up the alert is straightforward. Users simply navigate to the profile of the person they wish to monitor within their Life360 circle, select the “Set a No Show Alert” option, then specify both the location and expected arrival time. A grace period of a few minutes is built in, so minor delays won’t trigger unnecessary notifications.

For regular routines, the feature supports recurring alerts. By tapping “Repeat,” caregivers can choose specific days of the week, ideal for weekly schedules like school drop-offs or extracurricular activities.

Mike Zeman, Chief Marketing Officer at Life360, emphasized that coordination remains a primary concern for families, especially during hectic periods like back-to-school. He noted that app downloads consistently surge in the weeks leading up to the new school year. The no-show alerts are intended to provide reassurance and reduce the need for constant check-ins, fostering trust while still offering a safety net.

Although the feature is highlighted for parent-child use, it’s available to any circle member with location sharing enabled. The company reaffirmed that users retain full control over their privacy settings and can disable location sharing at any time.

The new functionality launches today for all U.S. users, with a global rollout planned for the coming weeks.
