VSCO has expanded the global availability of its new iPhone camera app, Capture, after initially launching it in select markets earlier this year. The app, which marks VSCO’s first major release in over a decade, is now accessible to users worldwide, offering advanced photography tools and creative presets.

Alongside this rollout, VSCO announced its acquisition of The Freelance Photographer, an educational platform that helps photographers and videographers build sustainable careers. The platform provides online and offline workshops, mentorship, and business guidance tailored for creative professionals.

Eric Wittman, VSCO’s CEO, emphasized the growing need for career-focused resources in photography. “Many emerging photographers struggle with turning their passion into a viable business,” he said. “The Freelance Photographer bridges that gap by offering structured education, community support, and industry insights.”

Capture sets itself apart with over 50 presets and real-time effects, allowing users to achieve a consistent aesthetic. The app also includes manual controls for shutter speed, exposure, and RAW/ProRAW shooting, catering to both casual and professional photographers. Additionally, users can automatically sync their photos with VSCO’s cloud storage for easy access.

The Freelance Photographer’s subscription plans range from $208 per month for basic coaching to $625 per month for premium access, which includes exclusive tools, courses, and one-on-one mentorship with founder Paul Weaver.

This acquisition aligns with VSCO’s broader strategy to support professional creatives. Last year, the company introduced VSCO Hub, a platform connecting brands with photographers, and VSCO Sites, which enables portfolio creation. More recently, VSCO launched Canvas, a collaborative moodboard tool designed for creative projects.

By integrating education and advanced photography tools, VSCO continues to position itself as a key resource for photographers at every stage of their careers.
