Silent Hill Remake Officially Announced by Konami

Fans of psychological horror have reason to celebrate as Konami officially confirms a ground-up remake of the original Silent Hill. The announcement came during the company’s Press Start showcase, revealing that Bloober Team will handle development in partnership with Konami. While details remain scarce, the project is confirmed to be actively in progress.

The teaser trailer cleverly incorporated the haunting intro theme from the 1999 classic, leaving little doubt that this remake will revisit the fog-drenched streets where the franchise began. A cryptic tweet from Konami’s official account reinforced the reveal with the series’ iconic phrase: “The fear of blood tends to create fear for the flesh.”

Bloober Team’s involvement brings credibility to the project following their well-received work on the Silent Hill 2 remake. Critics praised their ability to balance modernization with reverence for the source material, as highlighted in Eurogamer’s review, which commended the studio for expanding the experience while preserving its essence.

Unlike Silent Hill 2, the first installment has never received a full remake, only a 2009 reimagining titled Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. That version, initially released for the Wii, took creative liberties with the story and mechanics, offering a fresh but divisive take. This new project marks the first attempt to faithfully rebuild the original game with modern technology.

Alongside this announcement, Bloober Team continues development on Cronos: The New Dawn, showcasing their growing portfolio in the horror genre. With their track record and Konami’s oversight, anticipation is high for this revival of a landmark title in survival horror.
