Apple has introduced two new high-resolution monitors, expanding its professional display lineup with the 27-inch 5K Studio Display and the premium Studio Display XDR. Both models feature a sharp 5,120 x 2,880 resolution, a built-in 12MP Center Stage camera for enhanced video calls, a three-microphone array, and a six-speaker sound system supporting spatial audio and hands-free “Hey Siri” activation. Connectivity is handled by two Thunderbolt 5 ports and two USB-C ports, providing ample options for modern workflows.

The standout upgrade arrives with the Studio Display XDR model, which incorporates a Mini LED backlighting system. This advanced panel uses 2,304 individual dimming zones to achieve significantly higher peak brightness, deeper black levels, and superior contrast, making it particularly well-suited for high dynamic range (HDR) content creation and consumption. This display also supports adaptive sync technology, allowing its refresh rate to dynamically adjust between 47Hz and 120Hz for smoother motion, provided it is connected to a compatible M4 Mac or later, or an M5 iPad Pro. The standard Studio Display remains fixed at a 60Hz refresh rate.

Another practical difference lies in power delivery. The Studio Display XDR’s upstream port can deliver up to 140W of host charging, sufficient to fast-charge a demanding 16-inch MacBook Pro. The standard Studio Display offers a still-respectable 96W of charging power. Preorders for both monitors begin on March 4th, with shipments expected to start on March 11th. Pricing starts at $1,599 for the Studio Display, while the enhanced Studio Display XDR begins at $3,299. Choosing the optional anti-reflective nano-texture glass for the XDR model increases its price to $3,599.
