▼ Summary

– A leaked internal build of Android 17 shows a new “Separate” option that splits notifications and Quick Settings into distinct panels opened by swiping from the top-left and top-right of the screen, respectively.
– The “Combined (classic)” option will remain, allowing users to access a unified panel with a single swipe down from the top of the screen.
– On large screens, such as foldable device outer displays, the “Separate” view will be the only available option.
– The Quick Settings panel in the separate view will feature a new addition: a volume slider placed directly underneath the brightness control.
– Android 17 is also rumored to reintroduce a dedicated “Mobile Data” Quick Settings tile with a cellular bar icon, separate from the Wi-Fi toggle.

A new leak offers a detailed glimpse into a significant interface change potentially arriving with the next major Android update. The design, reportedly from an internal build, centers on a long-rumored split between the notifications shade and the Quick Settings panel, giving users a choice in how they interact with these core system features.

The leaked video and screenshots reveal a new menu within the system settings labeled “Notifications & Quick Settings.” This menu presents users with two distinct layout options. The first, called “Separate,” fundamentally changes the swipe-down gesture. Enabling the “Separate” option means swiping down from the top-left portion of the screen opens a dedicated notifications panel. This view features a prominent clock at the top, with the day, date, and status icons neatly arranged in corner capsules. The notifications list itself appears unchanged in this early build.

Conversely, swiping down from the top-right side of the screen would activate a distinct Quick Settings panel. This panel is housed in a sheet-like container and includes a smaller clock. The layout shows carrier information, buttons for editing tiles and accessing settings, and a power option across the first two rows. A notable new addition here is a volume slider positioned directly beneath the brightness control, with a three-dot menu button likely providing access to more detailed audio controls. The design of the individual Quick Settings tiles remains consistent with their current appearance.

The second option in the settings menu is labeled “Combined (classic).” This mode preserves the existing Android behavior where a single swipe down from anywhere at the top of the screen reveals a unified panel that mixes notifications with Quick Settings toggles. However, this familiar view may not be available on all devices. The leak suggests that on devices with larger screens, such as foldables when unfolded, the “Separate” layout could be the only available option. The classic combined view might be restricted to the smaller outer display on foldable phones.

Alongside this structural overhaul, the leak points to another returning feature. Android’s next version is said to reintroduce a dedicated “Mobile Data” Quick Settings tile, which would use a cellular signal bar icon. This would exist alongside a separate Wi-Fi toggle, giving users instant, independent control over these two critical connectivity options without needing to dive into a submenu.
