Sony has officially unveiled a new 27-inch gaming monitor designed specifically for PlayStation users, set to launch in the United States and Japan. Featuring a built-in charging hook for the DualSense wireless controller, this display aims to streamline the gaming setup while delivering high-performance visuals. The announcement came during the recent State of Play Japan broadcast, where Sony Interactive Entertainment president and CEO Hideaki Nishino highlighted the monitor’s vivid picture quality and convenient charging solution.

The monitor boasts a Quad High Definition IPS panel with a resolution of 2560 x 1440, making it well-suited for desktop gaming at a comfortable viewing distance. It supports high refresh rates and Variable Refresh Rate technology, offering up to 120 Hz when connected to a PS5 or PS5 Pro console, and up to 240 Hz for compatible PC and Mac devices. Auto HDR Tone Mapping automatically adjusts HDR settings during initial setup on PlayStation 5 systems, ensuring rich contrast and vibrant colors right out of the box.

Connectivity options are comprehensive, with two HDMI 2.1 ports and one DisplayPort 1.4 input, allowing seamless compatibility with a range of devices. The monitor also includes two USB Type-A ports and one USB Type-C port, which can be used with PlayStation Link adapters or other peripherals. Built-in stereo speakers and a 3.5mm audio output provide flexible sound options, while VESA mounting support offers users the ability to customize their display arrangement.

According to Shuzo Kikuchi, Vice President of Product Management at Sony Interactive Entertainment, the monitor was “built for desktop gaming with a PS5.” He emphasized that the integrated charging hook allows players to keep their DualSense or DualSense Edge controllers powered and ready, eliminating the need for separate charging stations or cables. While the design and specifications are still subject to change, the monitor is expected to arrive in 2026. Pricing and specific release dates have not yet been announced.

In the same State of Play presentation, Sony confirmed a Japan-exclusive version of the PS5 Digital Edition, positioned at a more competitive price. This follows similar regional strategies from other console manufacturers, such as Nintendo’s region-locked Switch 2 model. The new monitor represents Sony’s continued expansion into gaming accessories, following recent releases like wireless speakers compatible with PS5, PC, and mobile devices. Additional details about the monitor and other announcements from the event will be shared in the coming months.
