The highly anticipated strategy game Sid Meier’s Civilization VII is arriving on Apple Arcade on February 5th. This move brings the full empire-building experience to iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices through the platform’s monthly subscription. Players will guide historic leaders, expand their civilizations, and navigate the challenges of world domination, mirroring the core gameplay of the original PC release.

A key feature of this mobile and desktop version is its versatile control scheme. The game will offer touch controls optimized for iOS and iPadOS, while also providing full support for mouse and keyboard or traditional game controllers on macOS. This flexibility aims to cater to different play styles and preferences, whether on a commute or at a desk.

However, the Apple Arcade edition, officially dubbed Civilization VII Arcade Edition, does come with specific limitations. Notably, the version launching on February 5th will not include multiplayer functionality at release. Furthermore, it will not receive the downloadable content (DLC) and expansions available on PC and other console platforms. Another technical consideration involves map size; only devices equipped with more than 8GB of RAM will be able to utilize the large and huge map settings for the most expansive gameplay sessions.

Apple Arcade’s February update extends beyond this major strategy title. The service is also introducing Retrocade, a new collection that grants access to a suite of classic arcade games. Titles like Asteroids, Bubble Bobble, Centipede, and Galaga will be playable on Apple Vision Pro, iPhone, and iPad. Subscribers can also look forward to two other new arrivals on the same day: the rhythm-based adventure Felicity’s Door and the color-matching puzzle game I Love Hue Too+. This diverse lineup underscores Apple’s commitment to expanding its gaming subscription with both modern hits and nostalgic favorites.
