Ahrefs has expanded its digital marketing toolkit with the strategic acquisition of Detailed.com and its widely-used SEO browser extension. This move brings a respected on-page auditing platform and its engaged user base into the Ahrefs ecosystem, strengthening the company’s offerings for SEO professionals and content marketers worldwide.
As part of the agreement, Detailed founder Glen Allsopp will join Ahrefs in a full-time capacity, focusing on marketing strategy, research initiatives, and product development. The acquisition encompasses the Detailed website, its browser extension, and several additional domains and digital assets.
Since its launch in 2020, Detailed.com has built a reputation for publishing thorough, data-backed SEO research and actionable tips for practitioners. Their investigative work, including an influential analysis of how certain companies manage extensive networks of ranking websites, has attracted significant attention. Over the past year, the site recorded 970,000 unique visitors, demonstrating its reach and authority within the industry.
The Detailed SEO Extension boasts an impressive user base, with more than 450,000 weekly active users on Chrome and approximately 7,000 on Firefox. This tool simplifies and accelerates the auditing process by consolidating critical page-level data into a single interface. Professionals can quickly review title and meta tags, heading structures, robots directives, and schema markup without navigating away from the page.
Additional features include the ability to highlight nofollow links, inspect hreflang implementations, check status codes, extract People Also Ask results, simulate Googlebot via user agent switching, and seamlessly transfer URLs into leading SEO research platforms for deeper analysis.
For current users of the extension, the experience will remain unchanged. Allsopp confirmed that all existing functionality will stay free, and there are no immediate plans to introduce paid tiers. Should premium features be developed in the future, they will complement, not replace, the current free tools. The extension will continue to operate under the Detailed SEO Extension name, marketed as “Detailed, an Ahrefs brand.” No action is required from users, and updates will be delivered through the existing Chrome and Firefox store listings.
Reflecting on the move, Allsopp noted, “With so much evolving in SEO and digital marketing, I’m eager to contribute to efforts that help businesses connect with their audiences more effectively. Having relied on Ahrefs’ tools and insights in my own work for years, joining the team behind these resources is a thrilling opportunity.”
Financial details of the transaction were not made public.
This acquisition signals Ahrefs’ commitment to enhancing its suite of SEO solutions by integrating a popular utility extension and a research-oriented content platform. Looking forward, users may benefit from more rapid feature development and deeper integration, potentially streamlining everyday tasks like site audits, on-page optimization, and competitor analysis.
