The company has already deployed the first units in Germany and the United Kingdom, with a target of rolling out 3,000 chargers by the end of next year.
Each 1,500kW charging station is estimated to cost roughly €580,000 (around $670,000), according to the Financial Times. That would bring the total investment for the network to approximately $2 billion. These chargers are significantly more powerful than Tesla’s 500kW V4 Superchargers, though Tesla already operates 20,000 chargers across Europe. BYD’s new infrastructure is designed to support its Blade Battery technology, which can add enough range for a five-minute charge to cover 300 kilometers.
The rollout marks a major strategic move by BYD to compete directly with established players in the region. While Tesla currently dominates the European fast-charging landscape, BYD’s higher-power stations could set a new benchmark for speed and convenience.
