In November 2017, TechCrunch brought Startup Battlefield to Australia for the first time. Fifteen emerging companies from across Australia and New Zealand took a single stage in Sydney, pitching to investors and judges for a shot at global recognition. It was just one day, one venue, and the results were so compelling that we are now returning.

On August 19, 2026, Startup Battlefield is coming back to Sydney, this time in partnership with Stripe, a global technology powerhouse. We are taking over Stripe Tour Sydney for an evening designed to energize the Australian startup community. Ten selected companies will pitch live in front of top-tier investors, international media, and the country’s most influential tech leaders. The top three finishers will earn up to $10,000 in Stripe fee credits, but the grand prize is even bigger: an automatic, guaranteed spot in Startup Battlefield 200 at TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco this October. No additional applications, no extra competition, just a direct entry onto one of the world’s most iconic startup stages.

This event, however, is not only for the ten companies onstage. It is a moment for the entire Australian ecosystem, for founders, investors, operators, and builders who have been quietly doing world-class work from the other side of the globe. We want every ambitious founder in the room, whether pitching or watching, because nights like this remind you why you started in the first place.

What came from one day in Sydney in 2017 speaks for itself. The winner, HealthMatch, was pitched by Manuri Gunawardena, a final-year medical student who built a machine learning platform matching patients with clinical trials. That victory led to over $25 million in funding, U. S. expansion, and more than one million patients served globally, backed by Square Peg Capital and SEEK co-founder Paul Bassat.

The runner-up, FluroSat, used hyperspectral imaging to help farmers cut waste. The Startup Battlefield stage gave the company its first real visibility, leading to a seed round from Microsoft’s M12 and later a merger that created Regrow Agriculture. That company has now raised over $60 million, with backing from Microsoft, Airtree, and Cargill.

Together, the winner and runner-up from that single day have raised more than $85 million. That is what happens when you build a stage and invite the right people onto it.

Across 26 Australian Battlefield alumni, total collective funding now exceeds $147 million, with three successful acquisitions. Investors include Y Combinator, Blackbird Ventures, Square Peg, Khosla Ventures, Microsoft, Airtree, Startmate, Techstars, and SOSV. CancerAid evolved into Osara Health. Life Whisperer now partners with fertility clinics internationally.

These were companies the world had never heard of before they stood in a room in Sydney and made their case. That is exactly what Startup Battlefield does: it finds companies before the world knows their names.

We are looking for the next HealthMatch, the next Regrow, the next company nobody has heard of yet, building something that will truly matter.

Applications are open now through July 6, 2026. Apply today for Stripe x Startup Battlefield Australia 2026. It is free to apply, takes no equity, and leads to an in-person event in Sydney on August 19, 2026.
