Google Photos has launched its year-end Recap feature, offering users a personalized look back at their memories from the past year. This visual summary, enhanced with graphics and effects, provides a nostalgic journey through your photo library. For users in the United States, the experience is now supercharged by Google’s Gemini AI, which intelligently surfaces your hobbies and most significant moments.

The feature builds on the popular trend of data-driven annual reviews, similar to services like Spotify Wrapped. This year, however, it also acts as a showcase for Gemini’s capabilities. The AI models analyze your photo archive to understand context, helping to identify details like your “one true passion” and the other top highlights that defined your year.

Your Recap will include various photo statistics, such as your total number of photos, the most frequently photographed people, and a new metric for 2025: your total selfie count. You also have control over the content; the feature allows you to hide specific people or photos and then regenerate an updated version of your Recap.

Sharing these memories is straightforward. The Recap can be shared directly to social media platforms. A new integration adds a button to export your Recap to the CapCut editing app, where you can use additional Google Photos templates for further customization. At the end of the Recap, a new carousel provides short videos, photos, and collages designed for easy sharing to group chats or platforms like WhatsApp Status.

If your Recap doesn’t appear immediately, you can request Google Photos to generate it via an option at the top of the app. Once created, it will remain accessible throughout December, either at the end of your Memories carousel or pinned in your Collections tab. Throughout the month, Google Photos will also release a series of additional 2025 highlights for users to enjoy.
