Navigating the crowded world of travel technology, a fresh startup named Boop introduces a novel method for trip planning by transforming personal social suggestions into fully bookable travel routes. Rather than relying on generic artificial intelligence outputs, this application taps into the collective wisdom of actual travelers, allowing users to adopt and adapt itineraries crafted by people who have genuinely experienced those journeys.

Boop employs artificial intelligence to convert someone’s vacation into a structured plan almost instantly. By analyzing location details and photo metadata shared within the app, it builds a growing library of trip blueprints. Creators can monetize their shared itineraries, opening up a new revenue stream for travel influencers and everyday explorers alike.

The company was established in February by Nancy Li Smith, whose background includes leading augmented and virtual reality projects at Meta and Microsoft, plus serving as executive vice president for growth and strategy at BrightAI, a physical AI firm.

Smith conceived Boop after recognizing a gap in how she could efficiently save and distribute her own travel advice. She also aimed to tackle the mental strain and extensive effort tied to organizing getaways, pointing out that women handle about 80% of travel arrangements and frequently bear the burden of ensuring each vacation meets high expectations.

“Women typically take charge of planning within couples, families, and friend circles,” Smith explained in a TechCrunch discussion. “They face tremendous pressure to deliver outstanding experiences for everyone involved. For years, this emotional and logistical work went uncompensated. Boop simplifies the process, enabling effortless capture and sharing of travel knowledge.”

Users no longer need to spend hours scrolling through TikTok, reading countless reviews, or marking spots on Google Maps. Instead, they gain immediate access to proven itineraries recommended by trusted friends and content creators.

Smith describes Boop as “the first AI travel companion built on social trust.” She notes, “As soon as you begin exploring a new place, Boop quietly documents your journey, recording each stop, photo, and reservation, and converts it into an attractive, bookable itinerary your network can adopt.”

She adds, “Rather than starting from zero, a process that can take weeks, you can instantly duplicate a friend’s actual Tokyo or Paris vacation plan. With one tap, you chat with AI and customize it to your preferences in minutes.”

Once a user enables trip capture, the app monitors their route in the background, much like a fitness tracker records steps or running paths, provided the user grants location permission. Boop’s AI strictly uses location data for trip recording and personalized suggestions. For example, someone in Paris’s 11th arrondissement with an interest in art might receive a recommendation for Atelier des Lumières.

Future updates may include calendar integration, with user consent, to pull existing bookings directly into a Boop itinerary.

Smith emphasizes that Boop isn’t just for pre-trip planning, it’s also useful on the go. If you find yourself in Tokyo late at night feeling adventurous, the app can propose activities aligned with your interests and your friends’ endorsements.

Boop launches on mobile this Tuesday, initially available by invitation only. A public waitlist is currently open for those interested in early access.

The startup is granting priority access to travel creators whose journeys are already in demand. Many influencers who regularly post about their travels are eager for a platform that lets them profit from their recommendations. Creators share trips via a “Boop with me” link that incorporates affiliate connections.

“When someone uses the link and makes a booking, we integrate affiliate commission APIs from the travel sector,” Smith stated. “Standard commissions range from 10 to 25 percent, and we return half of that to the creator. Each copy can mean $50 to $100. An influencer with 100,000 followers could see hundreds of people replicating their itinerary, potentially generating five or six figures over time.”

Boop collaborates with affiliate aggregators for hotels and experiences, using APIs to pull bookable inventory from major platforms like Expedia, Booking.com, Marriott, and Viator.

According to Smith, Boop benefits from backing by executives from TripAdvisor, Marriott, and Expedia, who bring deep insight into travel trends and customer habits. Key investors include Stephen Kaufer, co‑founder and former CEO of Tripadvisor, and Stephanie Linnartz, former president of Marriott International.

The company secured $3.2 million in pre-seed funding last May, co‑led by BBG Ventures and Lynn Capital.

Looking ahead, Boop aims to become the primary destination for travel bookings, especially as studies indicate Gen Z considers travel a essential part of life, not an optional luxury.

“In five years, we envision people saying, ‘Copy my Boop,’ instead of ‘Check the reviews,’” Smith shared. “Every real journey becomes a guidebook, and every memory turns into a form of currency.”
