ADNOC and Gecko Robotics have solidified a major strategic expansion, introducing three new agreements focused on deploying robotics, artificial intelligence, and specialized training programs across the company’s operations. These pacts, formalized at the ENACT Majlis in Abu Dhabi, outline a multi-year technology implementation for ADNOC Gas, collaborative training initiatives with the ADNOC Technical Academy, and a widespread rollout of robotics and AI-driven analytics. This initiative is designed to significantly boost operational efficiency, minimize equipment downtime, and support a proactive, data-centric maintenance strategy.
Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, ADNOC’s managing director and group CEO, emphasized the strategic importance of this move. He stated that ADNOC is leveraging cutting-edge AI and technology to fundamentally reshape its work processes, aiming for superior efficiency, safety, and performance. He described these agreements as a critical milestone in the company’s ambition to become the world’s leading AI-enabled energy producer, accelerating robotics integration, nurturing local expertise, and reinforcing the UAE’s status as a global center for energy innovation.
A pivotal aspect of this collaboration involves AIQ, ADNOC’s joint venture with Presight, making its official foray into the robotics domain. The company signed a multi-year partnership with Gecko Robotics to implement the Cantilever operating system throughout ADNOC Gas’s infrastructure. This marks AIQ’s first major step into robotic technology deployment.
A second, separate agreement will see ADNOC and Gecko Robotics jointly investigate the broader application of advanced robotics and AI-powered analytics. This exploration includes the potential for manufacturing robotic systems within the UAE and tailoring AI solutions to meet ADNOC’s specific operational needs. The third agreement formalizes a collaboration between Gecko Robotics and the ADNOC Technical Academy to develop and deliver specialized training programs.
Jake Loosararian, CEO of Gecko Robotics, commented on the competitive landscape, noting a global race to lead in AI and energy. He argued that the winning energy companies will evolve into technology companies themselves. The key to victory, he explained, lies in acquiring physical data through robotics and then harnessing AI to unlock performance gains from that data. He credited Dr. Sultan Al Jaber as a leader who recognized this strategic imperative ahead of others.
In a related development announced at the same event, ADNOC has also entered a strategic agreement with Masdar, XRG, and Microsoft. This partnership aims to fast-track the deployment of artificial intelligence across ADNOC’s entire value chain. Concurrently, the group will work on delivering energy solutions to support Microsoft’s expanding global network of AI and data centers.
This expanded collaboration builds upon the existing long-term partnership between ADNOC and Microsoft. By bringing Masdar and XRG into the fold, the alliance will focus on developing sustainable energy projects and infrastructure specifically to power Microsoft’s growth in AI and data center capacity. As part of this joint effort, ADNOC and Microsoft will co-develop and implement AI agents to enable autonomous operations and uncover new efficiencies, extending the successful application of AI solutions already in place. Microsoft will contribute its advanced AI tools and upskilling programs, and both companies will explore establishing a joint innovation ecosystem to create transformative solutions for the wider energy industry.
