Adam, a Y Combinator alum that captured widespread attention with its viral text-to-3D application, has secured $4.1 million in seed funding to accelerate development of its AI copilot for computer-aided design. The startup, which generated over 10 million social media impressions upon launch, found itself in the enviable position of receiving unsolicited investment offers.

CEO Zach Dive revealed that investor interest was immediate and overwhelming. “Term sheets arrived in our inbox without any prior meetings,” he noted. The company ultimately selected TQ Ventures as its lead investor, a decision driven by shared vision regarding CAD’s future and Adam’s strategic roadmap. This roadmap prioritizes consumer adoption first, followed by enterprise expansion, a crucial alignment that differentiates Adam’s approach.

While enterprise solutions were always part of the long-term plan, Dive explained that initial technology limitations made consumer-facing products the logical starting point. “We initially targeted makers rather than engineers because the technology wasn’t yet enterprise-ready,” he said. However, rapid AI advancements have accelerated their timeline, with plans to launch a professional CAD copilot by year’s end.

Adam’s current tool enables non-technical creators to generate 3D models through simple text prompts. Early user feedback, however, indicated that text alone wasn’t always the optimal interface for 3D design. “For our copilot, we’ve integrated multiple interaction methods,” Dive elaborated. “Users can now select specific components of a 3D object and engage in conversational editing.”

This multimodal approach provides competitive differentiation in the increasingly crowded AI-assisted CAD space. Though competitors like MecAgent already operate in this segment, Adam’s viral launch provides significant momentum. That early visibility has proven particularly valuable for recruitment efforts, according to Dive. While he and co-founder Aaron Li both graduated from UC Berkeley’s Master of Design program, the startup actively seeks additional AI and engineering talent to enhance spatial reasoning capabilities.

The funding round attracted participation from several notable firms including 468 Capital, Pioneer, Script Capital, and Transpose Platform. Angel investors such as Tim Glaser (Posthog), Trevor Blackwell (Y Combinator), and Theo Browne (T3 Chat) also joined the cap table. The startup received additional validation from Vercel founder Guillermo Rauch, who described Adam as “the v0 of CAD” in a social media post, praising its simplicity, speed, and accessibility.

Adam already serves tens of thousands of individual users through subscription plans starting at $5.99 monthly, with a growing base of paying customers across standard and pro tiers. While enterprise monetization remains forthcoming, Dive confirmed that testers are currently validating various features. The transition from consumer 3D modeling to professional engineering tools represents a significant challenge, but Adam aims to augment rather than replace engineers. “We’re focused on streamlining repetitive tasks,” Dive explained, “such as applying uniform modifications across multiple CAD files.”

Initially concentrating on mechanical engineering applications, the startup plans to integrate with cloud-native CAD platforms like Onshape. Dive predicts that AI will transform CAD workflows just as cloud technology did, enabling professionals to create sophisticated parametric designs with unprecedented efficiency.
