The design platform Figma has announced its acquisition of Weavy, a company specializing in AI-driven image and video generation. This strategic move will see Weavy integrated under a new brand called Figma Weave, significantly enhancing Figma’s capabilities in AI media creation. The acquisition brings twenty employees from Weavy into Figma, though the financial terms of the deal remain undisclosed. Founded in Tel Aviv in 2024, Weavy previously secured $4 million in seed funding from investors including Entrée Capital, Designer Fund, Founder Collective, and Micha Kaufman, the founder of Fiverr.
Initially, Weavy will continue to operate as a standalone product. Over time, however, it will be merged with the Figma Weave brand and fully incorporated into the broader Figma ecosystem. Weavy’s web-based tools allow users to blend various AI models and utilize professional editing features, enabling the creation of high-quality images and videos suitable for product mock-ups and brand styling. Designers can refine their AI-generated media through layer edits, lighting adjustments, and color or angle modifications, all guided by simple text prompts to achieve their desired outcomes.
The creative process begins with an element such as an image prompt on an infinite canvas. Users can then review results from different AI models, select an image, and add another prompt for video generation. They are presented with multiple outputs from various models and can apply editing tools at any stage to alter the video’s appearance. Designers also have the flexibility to combine several prompts and models to reach their ideal final product.
Weavy supports a range of models including Seedance, Sora, and Veo for video generation, alongside Flux, Ideogram, Nano Banana, and Seedream for creating images. According to Figma CEO Dylan Field, “This node-based approach brings a new level of craft and control to AI generation. Outputs can be branched, remixed, and refined, combining creative exploration with iteration and craft. The Weavy team has inspired us with the balance they’ve struck between simplicity, approachability, and power. They’ve also created a tool that’s just a joy to use.”
Demand for AI-powered design platforms that streamline media generation and design workflows is clearly on the rise. Earlier this month, the AI search platform Perplexity acquired the team behind Visual Electric, a design platform backed by Sequoia. In April, Krea revealed it had raised $83 million across multiple funding rounds from prominent firms such as Bain Capital, a16z, and Abstract Ventures.
