Businesses racing to implement artificial intelligence face a monumental challenge: moving colossal datasets to train their models. Riverbed has unveiled its new Data Express Service, a cloud-based solution engineered to slash the time required for transferring petabytes of information. This new offering promises to accelerate data movement by up to ten times compared to conventional methods, dramatically cutting project timelines and operational expenses.

Modern enterprises are building large language models using data scattered across various locations, from on-premises data centers to multiple public clouds. Transporting this information to specialized AI computing clusters can traditionally take many months, creating significant delays and inflating costs. Riverbed’s service is designed to condense these timelines, completing in a matter of days what previously required months, thereby providing the rapid and secure data delivery essential for success in today’s competitive environment.

The service is built upon Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and integrates post-quantum cryptography (PQC) to safeguard data during transit through secure VPN tunnels. It provides enterprise-level controls for data access and offers the flexibility to deploy data mover agents within a customer’s own cloud tenancy for an added layer of security.

Dave Donatelli, Riverbed’s CEO, commented on the launch, stating that the service directly tackles a major obstacle in AI adoption. He emphasized the company’s recent strong performance, with a 77% year-over-year increase in bookings, and positioned the new Data Express Service as a key component of their strategy to help clients maximize returns on their AI investments.

Despite growing confidence in AI, research conducted by Riverbed involving 1,200 professionals across seven countries reveals ongoing preparedness gaps. A significant 75% of organizations intend to develop a formal AI Data Repository Strategy. An overwhelming 90% of those surveyed consider the movement and sharing of AI data to be absolutely critical, viewing it as central to leveraging advanced AI technologies for model training, data analysis, and implementing autonomous AI agents.

Sachin Menon, Vice President of Cloud Engineering at Oracle, noted that clients are actively seeking more efficient and secure methods to handle massive datasets. He confirmed that running the Riverbed Data Express Service on OCI will allow organizations to achieve faster results, lower their costs, and maintain robust data protection.

Chalan Aras, Senior Vice President at Riverbed, highlighted that speed, security, and simplicity are now fundamental drivers for achieving successful AI outcomes. He pointed to the company’s twenty-plus years of expertise in large-scale data movement as the foundation for this new service, which is designed to drastically reduce transfer times and help customers gain a competitive edge.

The Riverbed Data Express Service is scheduled to become generally available in the fourth quarter of 2025.
