Tesla’s New 3D Maps: First Look at 2025.38 Update

▼ Summary

– Cybertruck owners were initially excluded from the FSD V14.1 rollout, but Tesla executives confirmed the update is coming soon.
Tesla’s Director of AI confirmed the Cybertruck will receive the full FSD V14 features, including self-reversing and parking capabilities.
– The delay is due to the Cybertruck’s all-wheel steering, which requires retraining the FSD AI model to handle new vehicle dynamics.
– This is part of a pattern where the Cybertruck has consistently lagged in FSD features due to its advanced hardware integration challenges.
– The Cybertruck launched with limited driver-assist features and has experienced multiple FSD delays since its release in December 2023.

Tesla has officially confirmed that the full suite of FSD V14.1 capabilities will soon arrive for the Cybertruck, addressing widespread concerns among owners of the angular electric pickup. This announcement came directly from Ashok Elluswamy, Tesla’s Director of AI, who assured users that the advanced driver-assistance system, including the ability to reverse and park autonomously, is in the pipeline for the vehicle. While Elluswamy did not explicitly mention the return of Smart Summon and standard Summon features, long absent from the Cybertruck, expectations are high that these will also be part of the forthcoming package.

The primary reason behind the repeated delays stems from the Cybertruck’s sophisticated engineering. Elon Musk recently clarified that the all-wheel steering system presents a unique training challenge for Tesla’s neural networks. Unlike traditional front-wheel steering vehicles, which form the bulk of the data used to train Full Self-Driving, the Cybertruck’s rear-wheel steering introduces unfamiliar dynamics. This requires the AI to essentially relearn low-speed navigation and tight-space maneuvers, ensuring safety and precision before a wide release.

For Cybertruck owners, this technical explanation does little to ease a growing sense of frustration. The V14.1 delay is not an isolated issue but part of a broader trend where the truck has consistently lagged behind other Tesla models in receiving FSD updates. Since its initial launch in December 2023 with only Traffic-Aware Cruise Control, the Cybertruck waited ten months for its first FSD version. Even then, key functions like Summon, Start FSD from Park, and gear-shifting under FSD control were labeled as “upcoming” rather than available.

Underlying these software gaps is the truck’s advanced hardware. The integration of a 48-volt electrical architecture, a steer-by-wire system, and all-wheel steering has proven far more complex than Tesla’s engineers originally anticipated. These components require extensive calibration within the FSD software stack, contributing to the ongoing delays.

Compounding owner concerns is the fact that the Cybertruck does not support standard Autopilot, leaving drivers with a choice between basic cruise control and the still-evolving FSD. Despite incremental updates, such as the shift from V12.5.5 to V13.2, meaningful feature expansions have been scarce, leaving many feeling stuck in limbo.

Still, the confirmation that V14.1 is en route offers a tangible signal that Tesla is closing the gap between the Cybertruck’s revolutionary hardware and its software potential. For now, the company is asking for patience as it works to deliver a seamless, fully-featured autonomous driving experience tailored to the truck’s distinctive capabilities.
