Microsoft is enhancing its Copilot application for Windows, introducing the ability to generate Office files directly from chat prompts and link with popular email services like Gmail and Outlook. This update is currently available to Windows Insiders, with a broader rollout expected for all Windows 11 users in the near future.
The upgraded Copilot can now produce Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, and PDFs entirely within its chat interface. According to Microsoft’s development team, users can transform ideas, notes, or raw data into editable, shareable files using simple text commands. There’s no need to switch between applications or use additional software. For responses exceeding 600 characters, an export button appears by default, allowing direct transfer of text into Word, PowerPoint, Excel, or PDF formats.
Another significant addition is the option to connect Copilot with Outlook or Gmail accounts. Once linked, the AI assistant can retrieve information from these services, such as locating all invoices from a specific company in your inbox or finding a contact’s email address. This feature requires explicit user consent, you must enable it through the connectors section in the app. Supported services include OneDrive, Outlook, Google Drive, Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Contacts.
This Copilot refresh precedes the launch of a redesigned OneDrive application scheduled for next year. The forthcoming OneDrive update will bring a gallery view, AI-generated slideshows, and integrated editing tools, further expanding Microsoft’s ecosystem of intelligent productivity features.
