– Serco plans to expand Boomi usage with Boomi Event Streams for real-time data and aims to empower business leaders to create first-draft integrations within a governed framework.
Serco Asia Pacific is accelerating its digital transformation by integrating Boomi’s artificial intelligence capabilities, aiming to speed up development cycles and empower non-technical staff to build foundational integrations. The global public services provider, which operates across defence, healthcare, and justice sectors in the region, selected the Boomi Enterprise Platform to modernize its operations, streamline data management, and simplify its API connectivity framework.
The decision to deepen its use of Boomi was heavily influenced by the platform’s low-code design and user-friendly interface, which allows for the rapid construction and monitoring of integrations. A pivotal moment came during a Boomi event in Sydney, where Serco’s team discovered powerful AI features already included in their existing license.
Kiran Narayan, Director of Products and Digital Capabilities at Serco, described the revelation. “Our perspective on what was achievable was completely transformed. We found that advanced Boomi AI agents like Scribe and DesignGen were immediately available to us. We began experimenting with them live within minutes, which ignited a completely new approach to our work.”
Following this discovery, the company’s integration team quickly began testing and deploying these AI agents. These tools utilize natural language prompts, enabling users to design and deploy integrations with remarkable speed. Boomi Scribe was implemented as the core documentation system, automatically generating clear, understandable documents that explain the logic behind each interface. Simultaneously, Boomi DesignGen improved cross-team communication through visual models, helping to build confidence among stakeholders.
The impact on productivity has been substantial. Narayan highlighted the dramatic time savings, noting, “What used to take an integration developer two or three hours to document for customer understanding now takes just 10 to 15 minutes with Boomi Scribe.”
This efficiency gain is reflected in larger projects. Serco recently finished two major integration initiatives, where the total documentation process, including meetings, discussions, and document creation, was slashed from a previous range of 40 to 60 hours down to an average of just 6 to 12 hours using the AI agents.
This AI integration follows Serco APAC’s recent migration of its integration workloads from self-hosted runtime clusters to the Boomi Managed Cloud Service (MCS). Future plans involve activating Boomi Event Streams to manage real-time data flows and alerting systems. The organization is now concentrating its efforts on leveraging Boomi Agentstudio to further harness the power of its AI agents.
Narayan’s strategic vision involves enabling business leaders to use the Boomi platform for creating initial integration drafts. This approach aims to accelerate project delivery while allowing technical teams to dedicate their efforts to more complex challenges. “We are effectively removing bottlenecks without sacrificing governance,” he explained. “Giving business users the ability to model integrations within a controlled framework dramatically increases the speed at which we can deliver value.”
The platform also plays a critical role in supporting Serco’s data quality objectives through the use of Boomi DataHub and Boomi API Management, ensuring consistent and reliable information integrity across systems.
The successful implementation has generated significant enthusiasm at the executive level. “The results we’ve achieved have created genuine excitement among our senior leadership, from the CIO to the heads of our various business units,” Narayan confirmed.
David Irecki, Boomi’s Chief Technology Officer for Asia Pacific and Japan, commented on the partnership, stating, “Serco’s journey exemplifies the future of integration, a combination of low-code platforms, AI enablement, and business user empowerment. It has been a tremendous privilege to collaborate with a team that operates with such strategic speed and is deeply committed to spreading innovation throughout their entire organization.”
