Meta Could Be First to Use FADU’s PCIe 6.0 SSDs After Hyperscaler Deals

▼ Summary

– FADU has signed supply deals with two of the four major hyperscalers and expects to finalize a deal with a third by year-end.
– The company’s Sierra PCIe 6.0 controller supports capacities up to 512TB and sequential speeds of 28GB/s.
Meta is viewed as a likely early adopter after appearing with FADU at a recent industry conference.
– The controller delivers 6.9 million IOPS random read performance while operating under 9W power consumption.
– FADU shipped its Gen5 controller in late 2024 and expects to launch its Gen6 line in 2026.

Meta appears poised to become one of the first adopters of FADU’s advanced PCIe 6.0 SSDs, following the Korean company’s recent supply agreements with two major hyperscalers. FADU’s CEO, Lee Ji-hyo, confirmed during a press conference in Seoul that the company has secured mass production deals with two of the world’s four largest cloud service providers. While the specific names were not disclosed, industry observers point to Meta as a likely partner, especially after the social media giant’s representative shared the stage with FADU at the Future of Memory and Storage 2025 conference.

During the event, FADU introduced its next-generation SSD controller, codenamed Sierra, which supports massive capacities of up to 512TB and delivers blazing sequential speeds of 28GB/s. The controller also achieves a random read performance of 6.9 million IOPS while consuming less than 9W of power. These specifications position Sierra as a highly efficient solution for data centers looking to optimize performance while managing energy costs.

Meta engineer Ross Stenfort participated in the keynote, highlighting collaborative efforts on energy monitoring features designed to reduce operational expenses in large-scale data centers. This public appearance has fueled speculation that Meta is one of the two hyperscalers already under contract with FADU. Lee also mentioned that the company is in advanced discussions with a third hyperscaler and expects to finalize an agreement by year-end.

Looking ahead, FADU aims to supply all four major hyperscalers, AWS, Google, Microsoft, and Meta, within the next two to three years. The company began shipping its Gen5 controller in late 2024 and plans to launch its Gen6 product line in 2026. Lee emphasized FADU’s decade-long commitment to innovation, stating that the company will continue to lead the storage market by delivering SSDs with greater capacity, faster performance, and improved efficiency to meet the demands of the AI era.
