Google’s NotebookLM has introduced two significant updates, enhancing its AI-powered research and note-taking platform. The first is the full rollout of chat history functionality, allowing users to seamlessly continue conversations across web and mobile devices. The second major development is the launch of a new AI Ultra subscription tier, offering substantially expanded usage limits and exclusive features for power users.
The chat history feature is now available to all users. It enables you to start a conversation on your computer and pick it up later on your Android or iOS device, or the other way around. Each response within the chat is clearly timestamped with the day and date. If you want to clear a conversation, you can find the “Delete chat history” option in the three-dot menu. It is important to note that your individual chat history within a notebook that has been shared with others remains private to you.
Simultaneously, Google has officially expanded NotebookLM access for subscribers to its premium AI Ultra plan. This new tier, teased earlier in the year, provides a major increase in capabilities compared to the existing AI Pro subscription.
For a monthly fee of $250, AI Ultra subscribers receive dramatically higher daily usage limits. These limits are generally about ten times greater than those of the AI Pro plan. The new allowances include 5,000 chats, 200 Audio Overviews, 200 Video Overviews, 1,000 Reports, 1,000 Flashcards, 1,000 Quizzes, and 200 Deep Research generations per day.
The upgrades extend beyond daily tasks. Users can now add up to 600 sources to a single notebook, doubling the previous limit of 300. Furthermore, a notebook can be shared with up to 1,000 collaborators, compared to 500 on the lower tier. The plan also provides the “Highest” possible limits for generating Infographics and Slides, along with access to the most advanced Gemini AI models.
A key exclusive feature for AI Ultra subscribers is Watermark Removal for Infographics and Slide Decks. This capability, which aligns with functionality in other Google applications, is not available to users on other subscription plans.
