Canva Expands into Coding and Spreadsheet Tools: The Visual Suite 2.0

Canva is broadening its horizons with the introduction of an array of generative AI-powered workspace tools, aiming to consolidate functionalities offered by Microsoft, Google, and Adobe into a unified platform. Canva’s Visual Suite is being revamped to integrate design and productivity tools within a single interface. This redesign brings new features such as coding, photo editing, spreadsheet capabilities, and an AI chatbot.
These new tools build on the office suite tools introduced in 2022, including Canva Docs and Canva Whiteboards, which serve as alternatives to Microsoft Word, Google Docs, and FigJam. Having established itself in the marketing and design sectors, Canva now seeks to attract more office teams and businesses, adding to its 230 million user base with a visual-centric approach to traditional workspace applications.
The Visual Suite 2.0 update enhances the user experience by allowing seamless creation and editing of documents, presentations, animations, and websites within a single design framework. This unified format facilitates team collaboration on multiple tasks simultaneously. “This eliminates the need for separate tools, fragmented workflows, and disconnected files,” Canva mentioned in its press release. “Entire campaigns — from planning and briefing to design and delivery — can now occur in one seamless, collaborative space.”

Canva Sheets introduces a creative twist to traditional spreadsheet applications, blending text with visual elements. Users can import data from sources like HubSpot, Statista, Google Analytics, and more. The AI-driven “Magic Insights” feature scans data to highlight significant patterns or insights. Additionally, “Magic Charts” allows users to convert raw data into interactive graphs, infographics, reports, and animated visualizations effortlessly.
Canva Code, a generative AI coding assistant, akin to Gemini Code Assist and GitHub Copilot, enables users to generate widgets, websites, and other interactive content from text prompts without needing any coding skills or external tools.

Additionally, Canva is introducing an AI chatbot, described as a “conversational creative partner,” which consolidates all of Canva’s generative AI tools in one accessible window. Users can interact with the chatbot through voice or text prompts to modify photos, resize designs, and create text, slides, and images.

On the creative front, Canva has enhanced its Photo Editor with features similar to those in Adobe’s Photoshop software. The updated Photo Editor allows users to automatically modify or eliminate background objects with a click and generate AI-crafted backgrounds that consider lighting and layout.
