Peloton has issued a significant recall for approximately 833,000 of its original Bike Plus exercise machines following reports of the seat post breaking and detaching while in use. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall after Peloton logged three separate instances of the component failing, leading to two user injuries from falls.

The recalled Bike Plus units were manufactured in Taiwan between 2019 and 2022 and sold directly by Peloton and through retailers such as Dick’s Sporting Goods, Amazon, and eBay from January 2020 through April 2025. Consumers can identify an affected bike by checking for model number PL02 and a serial number that starts with the letter “T.” Peloton is providing a free redesigned seat post to all impacted customers, which they can install on their own without professional assistance. It is important to note that this recall does not include the newer Bike Plus Cross Training series, which was released in October.

Marcio Oliveira, Peloton’s senior vice president of Global Hardware Operations and Product Safety, emphasized the company’s commitment to safety, stating that member well-being and product integrity are their highest priorities. He urged all owners of affected bikes to contact Peloton promptly to receive the updated seat post.

This marks the second time Peloton has recalled bike seat posts. A previous recall in 2023 involved the base model original Bike, impacting 2 million units. That earlier recall was prompted by 35 breakage reports and 13 injuries. Although the original Bike and Bike Plus are similar, they utilize slightly different seat post designs.

The announcement arrives at a sensitive moment for the fitness company, which is scheduled to release its quarterly earnings later today. These results are being closely watched, as they represent the first financial report since Peloton introduced a major hardware update and rolled out its new AI-powered fitness coaching feature.
