– Since its June launch, 10.36 million Switch 2 consoles and 20.62 million games have been sold, with Nintendo increasing its game sales forecast from 45 million to 48 million.
– Combined hardware and software sales drove a 110% revenue surge to ¥1,099.5 billion ($7.1 billion) for April-September, with Nintendo raising its full-year sales forecast to ¥2,250 billion ($14.6 billion).
– The original Switch has reached 154.01 million lifetime sales, nearly matching the DS at 154.02 million, and needs to surpass 160 million to beat the PlayStation 2 as the best-selling console ever.
– The Switch 2 is guaranteed to surpass the Wii U’s lifetime sales of 13.7 million units before its first birthday, making it the fastest-selling game console of all time.
Nintendo has significantly increased its sales forecast for the Switch 2 console, reflecting stronger-than-expected consumer demand. The company now anticipates selling 19 million units by March 2026, a substantial upward revision from its previous projection of 15 million units. This adjustment follows an impressive launch period, where the console sold 10.36 million units since its release in June, with 4.54 million of those sales occurring in the most recent earnings period from April 1st to September 30th.
The momentum extends beyond the hardware itself. Sales of Switch 2 games have reached 20.62 million copies. Consequently, Nintendo has also raised its software sales forecast, now expecting to sell 48 million game units, up from the initial estimate of 45 million. This powerful combination of hardware and software performance is fueling a dramatic financial upswing for the company.
Revenue for the six-month period ending in September skyrocketed to ¥1,099.5 billion (approximately $7.1 billion). This figure represents a massive 110 percent increase compared to the ¥523.2 billion (around $3.4 billion) reported during the same timeframe last year. In light of these robust results, Nintendo has also revised its full-year sales forecast upward to ¥2,250 billion (roughly $14.6 billion), noting that it has factored potential US tariff measures into this new financial outlook.

While the Switch 2 is on track to become a historic success in its own right, the original Switch console continues to demonstrate remarkable longevity. Its lifetime sales have now reached 154.01 million units, putting it within a hair’s breadth of surpassing the Nintendo DS, which sold 154.02 million units and is currently the company’s best-selling console. Once it overtakes the DS, the original Switch will need to sell just over 160 million units to claim the title of the best-selling console of all time, a record currently held by Sony’s PlayStation 2.
The success of the new console is even more pronounced when contrasted with Nintendo’s less popular systems. The Wii U, for instance, managed lifetime sales of only 13.7 million units throughout its entire market presence. Given its current trajectory, the Switch 2 is virtually certain to exceed that total before it even celebrates its first anniversary on the market.
