Mint Mobile’s Home Internet: A Steal, But There’s a Catch

▼ Summary

– Mint Mobile offers a new prepaid 5G home internet plan starting at $30/month, requiring a Mint phone plan and at least three months prepayment.
– Pricing is complex, with the $30/month rate only for new customers on three-month plans, while renewals and longer plans cost $35-$40/month.
– The plan has no contracts or installation requirements, making it a flexible option depending on location.

Mint Mobile has expanded beyond wireless service with a new prepaid 5G home internet offering that starts at just $30 per month. This competitive price makes it one of the most affordable 5G home internet options currently available, though certain conditions apply to qualify for the lowest rate.

Dubbed “Home Minternet,” the service operates on T-Mobile’s 5G network, delivering comparable download speeds ranging from 133 to 415 Mbps and providing unlimited data. However, Mint applies data prioritization after 1 TB of monthly usage, whereas T-Mobile’s own service allows up to 1.2 TB before similar network management takes effect. Subscribers also won’t receive the extra features included with pricier T-Mobile plans, such as bundled streaming subscriptions or enhanced security tools.

Where things get complicated is the pricing model. To get the $30 monthly rate, you must be a new customer with an existing Mint phone plan and prepay for three months of service. When it’s time to renew, that same three-month plan increases to $40 per month. Choosing a six-month plan brings the monthly cost to $35, while only a full 12-month prepayment locks in the original $30 price.

If you don’t have a Mint Mobile phone plan, the home internet service alone costs an additional $10 each month. That means what appears to be a $30 plan could actually run $50 monthly for internet-only customers. Even so, with no long-term contracts and no professional installation required, Mint’s Home Minternet presents a flexible and potentially budget-friendly alternative, especially for those in areas with strong T-Mobile 5G coverage.
