Australian data centre specialist NEXTDC has strengthened its leadership team with the appointment of Jamaludin Ibrahim to its board as a non-executive director, effective from November 1, 2025. This strategic move brings a leader with more than four decades of executive-level experience in the IT and telecommunications industries to the company. Jamaludin spent 27 years in chief executive officer positions and, since stepping back from executive duties in 2020, has maintained an active role across multiple sectors including technology, fast food, aviation, and transportation through various non-executive appointments.
His extensive board experience spans both Malaysia and the international stage, encompassing publicly listed corporations, private companies, and government-linked entities. Jamaludin’s academic credentials include an MBA from Portland State University in the United States, where he specialized in Operations Research and Quantitative Methods. He also earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a minor in Mathematics from California State University, Chico.
Currently, he holds the position of Chairman at QSR Brands, which operates in the fast-food sector across ASEAN, and serves as Chairman of AirAsia Aviation Group Ltd. He is also a Board Member of SEEK Ltd in Australia. His previous board responsibilities included the role of Chairman for Prasarana Malaysia Berhad, the national public transport owner and operator, and a non-executive directorship at the publicly listed Sunway Berhad.
In addition to his corporate roles, Jamaludin has contributed to public service in Malaysia. In 2020, the former Prime Minister appointed him to serve on both the Economic Action Council and the Digital Economy Council. He has actively participated in various national policy initiatives and task forces. He currently holds the honorary position of Pro-Chancellor at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).
His distinguished commercial career features leadership roles as Group CEO of Axiata Group from 2008 to 2020, CEO of Maxis Communications between 1998 and 2007, and Managing Director of DEC Malaysia from 1993 to 1997. His professional journey began at IBM Malaysia in 1981, where he progressed through a range of positions in systems engineering, sales, and management over twelve years. Before entering the corporate world, he started as a Lecturer at California State University, Chico in 1980.
Jamaludin’s contributions to the industry have earned him significant recognition. He was honored with the GSMA (Global Telecom Associations) Chairman’s Award in 2015 and received an Honorary Doctorate in Management from Universiti Sains Malaysia in 2024.
