Genetec Inc., a leading developer of enterprise physical security software, has integrated cloud-native audio communications directly into its Security Centre SaaS platform. This enhancement builds upon the company’s extensive background in providing SIP-based audio and intercom solutions, now extending those real-time voice capabilities to its unified cloud interface. The platform already seamlessly combines video surveillance, access control, and intrusion monitoring into a single, intuitive system.

Security personnel across various industries, including education, retail, and healthcare, can leverage this unified approach for both routine activities and urgent situations. By having audio, video, and access control data in one place, teams can verify identities visually, communicate instantly with people at entry points, and execute necessary actions without the delay of switching between different applications. This integration is designed to accelerate decision-making and improve operational efficiency.

Christian Morin, Vice President of Product Engineering at Genetec, emphasized the company’s philosophy. “Our goal is to give customers the same freedom with audio that they already expect from video and access control,” he stated. He further explained that this approach allows organizations to select the intercom hardware that best meets their specific requirements, all while managing everything through a single, cloud-native platform without being locked into a single vendor’s proprietary technology.

The scalability of the Communications for Security Center SaaS feature is a key advantage, supporting deployments ranging from a handful of intercoms to systems encompassing thousands of units for large enterprises. Its cloud-native, open architecture enables organizations to begin with a small, low-cost pilot program and expand their audio network rapidly as needed. At its initial launch, the system will support intercom devices manufactured by Axis, with plans to incorporate hardware from additional vendors in future updates.

Fredrik Nilsson, VP of the Americas for Axis Communications, commented on the collaboration. “The native integration of Axis intercoms into Security Center SaaS built with Axis Cloud Connect means customers get enterprise-grade communications without the complexity of standalone systems,” he said. This deep integration allows security teams to manage their Axis intercoms within the same familiar environment they use for video surveillance, access control, and forensic analysis, thereby enhancing overall situational awareness and incident response effectiveness.

Security and privacy are foundational to the platform’s design. All audio data is treated with the same level of confidentiality as video and access control information, protected by robust encryption for data in transit. The system maintains comprehensive audit trails for accountability and undergoes automated software updates that include regular security patches to defend against new and evolving cyber threats.

The Communications for Security Center SaaS feature is scheduled for a global release in September 2025 and will be available through Genetec’s network of accredited channel partners.
