Schlage launches UWB smart lock this month

▼ Summary
– The Schlage Sense Pro deadbolt lock, announced at CES 2025, will be available for $399 in the US starting June 29th, using UWB to unlock doors as users approach with a supported device.
– It uses Schlage’s Converge UWB technology, requiring a home key on a compatible iPhone or Apple Watch to calculate speed, trajectory, and motion for automatic unlocking.
– The lock supports Matter over Thread for low-latency performance with a Thread-enabled Apple Home hub, and is compatible with the Aliro standard for UWB hands-free and NFC tap-to-unlock.
– The Sense Pro includes built-in Wi-Fi for remote management via Schlage Home or Apple Home apps, offers up to six months of battery life, and has a USB-C port for temporary power.
– It is currently one of only two locks supporting Aliro UWB hands-free unlocking, alongside the Aqara U400, and was tested to unlock automatically on approach at CES 2025.
After more than a year of anticipation, Schlage is finally bringing its first ultra wideband (UWB) smart lock to market. Starting June 29th, the Schlage Sense Pro deadbolt will be available for $399 in the U.S. Instead of fumbling for keys or using biometric scans, customers can simply approach their door with a supported device and it will unlock automatically.
Originally unveiled at CES 2025, the Sense Pro relies on Schlage’s proprietary Converge technology for UWB. This system uses a home key stored on a compatible iPhone or Apple Watch to calculate your speed, trajectory, and motion, triggering the lock to open as you arrive. It also marks Schlage’s first lock to support Matter over Thread, ensuring consistent, low-latency performance when paired with a Thread-enabled Apple Home hub, such as select Apple TV 4K or HomePod models.
The lock is also compatible with Aliro, the smart lock standard that enables both UWB hands-free unlocking and NFC tap-to-unlock. Schlage expects the Sense Pro to support Aliro digital keys in Samsung Wallet and Google Wallet “later this year.” That update will allow UWB-enabled Google and Samsung devices to unlock the door hands-free or via NFC tap.
For those who prefer a backup method, the Sense Pro also includes tap-to-unlock with NFC. It comes with built-in Wi-Fi, so users can manage the lock remotely through either the Schlage Home app or the Apple Home app. According to Schlage, the lock offers up to six months of battery life under standard use. If the batteries die, a built-in USB-C port provides temporary power, and a low-battery indicator on the touchscreen keeps users informed.
Currently, the only other lock offering hands-free Aliro UWB unlocking is the Aqara U400, which launched at $270 earlier this year. When my colleague Jen tested the Sense Pro at CES 2025, she reported that it unlocked automatically on approach despite the heavy RF interference on the show floor. After a long wait, we can finally see if that speedy, hands-free experience holds up in real homes.
