Apple is set to significantly revamp the Camera app in iOS 27 by introducing a fully customizable interface, according to a new report from Bloomberg. Instead of a fixed set of controls, users will soon be able to handpick which features appear on screen, including options for flash, exposure, timer, depth of field, photo styles, and resolution.
These adjustable controls, referred to as widgets, can be freely arranged at the top of the Camera interface. To customize the layout, users will pull up a transparent widget tray from the bottom of the app. The available widgets are organized into three distinct groups: basic, manual, and settings. For those who prefer the existing setup, Apple will retain the default layout featuring quick-tap buttons for flash, Live Photos, and Night Mode. The new customizable interface will be offered as an advanced layout, specifically designed to appeal to professional and power users.
Different camera modes, such as photo and video, will each have their own dedicated set of widgets. A new Siri camera mode is also in development, which will integrate the Visual Intelligence features currently accessible only through the Camera Control or Action buttons. In a further interface adjustment, the current top-right panel for accessing all controls will be relocated to a position to the right of the shutter button. Apple is also adding new grid and level options for improved composition.
Beyond the Camera app, iOS 27 brings notable updates to the Weather app. A new Conditions panel will allow users to easily toggle between temperature, rain, and wind data, mirroring the interface that appears when tapping into a weather module in the current version.
The Safari browser is also getting a refresh with an updated start page. This new page will feature four tabs across the top for quick switching between favorites, bookmarks, Reading List, and history.
According to Bloomberg, system-wide design changes are also on the horizon. The tab bar in apps like Apple Music, Podcasts, News, and Apple TV will be restructured to combine search with the other navigation options. This marks a reversal from the design introduced with Liquid Glass, where search was separated from the main tab bar.
Additional refinements include a new animation for the on-screen keyboard, where keys will appear to slide up from the bottom of the screen. Apple is also adding redo and undo controls for actions taken while customizing the Home Screen’s icon and widget layouts.
Apple is expected to preview iOS 27 at the Worldwide Developers Conference, which kicks off on June 8.
