iOS 27 Brings These New Features to Your iPhone

Apple is gearing up to unveil iOS 27 during its WWDC 2026 keynote on June 8, and early rumors point to a substantial update packed with new features, performance improvements, and deeper Apple Intelligence integration. The first developer beta is expected to drop immediately after the keynote, with a public beta following in July and a full release for compatible iPhones in September.

One of the most talked-about additions is a dedicated Siri app, reportedly rolling out across iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27. This app would let users interact with Apple’s assistant in both text and voice, much like ChatGPT or Gemini, and it would provide access to past conversations. The Dynamic Island is also rumored to get a refreshed Siri interface, showing a “Search or Ask” prompt with a glowing cursor that echoes the WWDC 2026 graphic. After delays, Apple is finally expected to deliver personalized Siri features first teased in 2024, such as asking about a family member’s flight or lunch reservation using data from Mail and Messages. “We look forward to bringing a more personalized Siri to users coming this year,” CEO Tim Cook confirmed on a recent earnings call.

Satellite connectivity is getting a major boost. iOS 27 is rumored to support 5G satellite internet, though this may be limited to the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and iPhone Ultra models with Apple’s next-generation C2 modem. Additional satellite features reportedly include Apple Maps via satellite, Photos support for Messages via satellite, third-party app integration, and the ability to connect without pointing your phone at the sky. Amazon’s recent acquisition of Globalstar, the company behind Apple’s satellite services, has led to a new agreement to maintain and expand connectivity for current and future iPhones and Apple Watches.

Apple is taking a Mac OS X Snow Leopard approach with iOS 27, prioritizing bug fixes, stability, and performance over flashy redesigns. That said, Liquid Glass design enhancements are expected, including a system-wide slider for adjusting interface opacity, similar to the Lock Screen clock control.

The keyboard is also getting an upgrade. Apple has reportedly tested an updated version with enhanced autocorrect that offers alternative words, drawing comparisons to Grammarly. If finalized, this could debut in iOS 27.

New Apple Intelligence features are on the horizon for the iPhone 15 Pro and newer, based on server code discovered by developer Nicolás Alvarez. These include Visual Intelligence for scanning nutrition labels to track calories in the Health app, scanning phone numbers or addresses from paper into Contacts, and generating digital versions of physical event tickets or gym cards in the Wallet app. Safari may also gain the ability to automatically name Tab Groups based on tab content. Three new photo editing tools in the Photos app are also rumored, alongside Undo and Redo options for Home Screen customization.

As for compatibility, leaker Instant Digital reports that iOS 27 will support the iPhone 12 series and newer, dropping the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, and second-generation iPhone SE. These devices will continue to receive iOS 26 security updates for a few years. The full list of compatible models includes everything from the iPhone 12 to the iPhone 17e and iPhone Air, though any new Apple Intelligence features will require an iPhone 15 Pro or later. Instant Digital has a mixed track record, having correctly predicted the yellow iPhone 14 and the Apple Watch Ultra 2’s Titanium Milanese Loop, but not all claims have panned out.
