Manor Lords Announces Major Systems Overhaul, Not Just Minor Updates

▼ Summary
– Manor Lords’ updates have slowed in 2025 as developer Slavic Magic focuses on a major overhaul of game systems like buildings and production chains.
– The overhaul includes reworking the affinity system, which governs relationships between structures and their environments, to be more in-depth and contextual.
– The new system avoids circular zones, instead using environmental types (meadow, woodland, etc.) to determine building benefits, with some structures buffing others.
– Additional non-mechanical features in development include new shopfronts, a divided map, and a camera feature to see inside fortifications.
– Smaller patches have been delayed to avoid conflicts with ongoing large-scale changes, with no specific timeline provided for the overhaul’s release.
Manor Lords fans have been eagerly awaiting updates, but developer Slavic Magic has revealed the reason behind the slower pace of changes, a major systems overhaul is underway. Rather than rolling out minor patches, the team is focusing on transforming core mechanics, including building interactions, production chains, and environmental dynamics.
In a recent Steam update, creator Greg Styczeń explained the delay, stating the studio is completely reworking foundational systems to create a deeper, more immersive experience. One key change involves revamping the affinity system, which dictates how structures interact with their surroundings. Traditional radius-based mechanics clashed with Manor Lords’ flexible plot system, leading to awkward gameplay. Instead, the team is implementing an environmentally contextual approach, where buildings gain benefits based on their placement in specific zones like meadows, woodlands, or urban areas.
For example, apiaries now thrive near large woodland regions, while certain structures can even enhance nearby buildings’ affinities, such as apiaries boosting pollination effects for orchards. Beyond mechanics, Styczeń teased visual and gameplay additions, including new shopfronts, artisan workstations, and a divided map split by a mountain range. Players will also enjoy a new camera feature allowing them to peek inside fortifications, watching guards patrol towers in real time.
With so many interconnected changes in development, smaller patches have taken a backseat to avoid disrupting ongoing work. While no release window was given, Styczeń promised regular updates as the overhaul progresses. For now, Manor Lords enthusiasts can look forward to a more dynamic and polished experience once these ambitious revisions go live.
