Rabbit R1’s OS 2 Launch: A New Beginning

Rabbit has released a significant software update, Rabbit OS 2, for their R1 AI device. This update aims to address the initial shortcomings and redefine the user experience, making the device feel entirely new. Jesse from Rabbit acknowledges the “embarrassing” gap between high expectations and the initial software experience after the device’s launch in January, but emphasizes the team’s commitment to improving the device by pushing over 30 updates in 16 months.
Key Features of Rabbit OS 2
The Rabbit OS 2 update introduces a variety of new features and a completely redesigned interface. Ryan from Rabbit highlights that while the hardware remains unchanged, the software overhaul transforms the device. Notable improvements include:
- Improved Conversation Flow: The device now displays conversations on the screen when the button is pressed.
- Redesigned Interface: A new card stack system offers easy access and improved visibility to different device features.
- Enhanced Media Access: The Magic Gallery and Rabbit Hole now provide quick access to photos, with translation transcripts synced to the user’s account .
- Direct Recordings Playback: Users can now play back recordings directly on the R1 device .
Introducing “Creations”
A major addition in Rabbit OS 2 is “Creations,” which is described as the “first vibe coding device”. This feature, powered by Rabbit Intern, enables non-technical users to build their own tools or games on the R1 device through a real-time conversation with the AI. A demonstration shows a user creating a cyberpunk-themed Pong game simply by asking the device to build it. Creations can be installed for free from rabbit.tech or shared with others by generating a QR code.
The update is a significant step for Rabbit, aiming to transform the R1 into a more capable and user-friendly device with the new “Creations” feature setting the stage for a new generation of the app store.
