A Snow Leopard-style focus on software quality
One of the most celebrated macOS releases remains 2009’s Snow Leopard, famously marketed as having “no new features.” Instead, Apple prioritized bug fixes and performance improvements. While Snow Leopard did introduce a handful of new capabilities, the list was intentionally short. Now, rumors indicate macOS 27 could follow a similar path.
Last November, Mark Gurman reported that Apple’s primary focus for iOS 27 and its companion updates was “improving the software’s quality and underlying performance,” describing them as “Snow Leopard-style” updates. The current macOS Tahoe has not been universally well-received among veteran Mac users, partly due to Liquid Glass shortcomings and broader concerns about software stability.
Since that initial report, Gurman has detailed many new features arriving in Apple’s upcoming software, which made the “Snow Leopard-style” promise seem less certain. However, in his latest WWDC preview, Gurman offered a note that could reassure longtime Mac fans:
