This endurance is achieved even while operating at an 8,000 Hz polling rate over a 2.4GHz connection, a feat made possible by its use of ZMK firmware optimized for wireless efficiency rather than the more common QMK. While this longevity is technically remarkable, its practical necessity on such a large, stationary board is debatable. Priced at $239.99, this full-size aluminum keyboard enters a niche for gamers and typists seeking a complete layout, though its stock typing experience may prompt modifications.

Constructed with a full aluminum body and double-gasket design, the Q6 Ultra 8K is a substantial five-pound peripheral. Its clean, angular design houses a full layout including a numpad, navigation cluster, four macro keys, and a programmable CNC aluminum rotary knob. The included double-shot PBT keycaps feature a tall KSA profile, which contributes to the board’s overall height. Most users will likely prefer a wrist rest for extended comfort. Connectivity is versatile, offering 2.4GHz wireless, Bluetooth, and wired USB-C operation, with a physical switch to toggle between Windows and Mac modes.

Out of the box, the keyboard comes with Keychron’s Silk POM switches; our review unit featured the Brown tactile variant. These factory-lubed switches have a very soft tactile bump and a 55g operating force. Paired with the high-profile keycaps, the typing feel was not ideal for this reviewer. The combination felt somewhat sluggish, with a heavier actuation that led to occasional missed keystrokes, despite typing tests showing only a minor drop from a typical 125 WPM to around 115 WPM. The acoustic signature is decently dampened, producing a bright, clacky sound without notable ping or rattle.

For gaming, the experience is more forgiving. The high keycaps are less of an issue during gameplay, and the 8K polling rate ensures minimal input latency. It lacks magnetic switches and features like Rapid Trigger, but its wireless performance and battery life are compelling for those who prioritize a clean desk. The hot-swappable PCB means users dissatisfied with the stock switches can easily install their preferred alternatives.

Configuration is handled through the Keychron Launcher, a web-based app. This requires an internet connection, which seems a reasonable trade-off for a keyboard of this size that is unlikely to travel frequently. The software allows for key remapping, macro recording, lighting adjustment, and firmware updates. Notably, the 8,000 Hz polling rate is enabled by default, unlike many competitors that ship at 1,000 Hz.

The battery performance is the headline. The rated 660 hours assumes lighting is off. With backlighting at its lowest setting, runtime drops to a still-respectable 200 hours. This efficiency starkly contrasts with other wireless 8KHz peripherals that often struggle to last a full day.
