The official EPA range estimate for the Rivian R2 has been revealed ahead of its first customer deliveries. Leaked certification documents show the electric SUV achieves 335 miles of range when equipped with 21-inch wheels and performance tires. This figure slightly exceeds the company’s initial projection of at least 330 miles, solidifying the R2’s competitive standing in the midsize EV segment.
Both the initial R2 Performance model and the later R2 Premium trim will utilize the same 87.9 kWh battery pack. The Performance version, priced at $57,990, will be the first available for purchase. The more affordable Premium trim, starting at $53,990, is scheduled to follow in late 2026.
Interestingly, the certification also provides a range estimate for the R2 configured with smaller 20-inch wheels. Contrary to typical EV dynamics where smaller wheels improve efficiency, this setup returns a lower EPA estimate of 314 miles. The reduction is attributed to the specific all-terrain tires fitted to those wheels, which create more rolling resistance compared to the standard road tires on the 21-inch option.
This leak provides concrete data for prospective buyers as Rivian prepares to expand its lineup beyond the R1S and R1T. The confirmed range and pricing details offer a clearer picture of the value proposition for this highly anticipated vehicle.
