As the PlayStation 5 marks its fifth year on the market, Sony has shared a fascinating collection of player statistics highlighting the most popular multiplayer and single-player games. The single-player category is led by 2020’s Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, a major launch title that continues to attract significant playtime. In the multiplayer space, Fortnite unsurprisingly captured the number one position.
Across the entire PS5 library, players have collectively spent an astounding 100 billion hours enjoying more than 7,500 available games. Following Fortnite, Grand Theft Auto V secured the second spot for most-played multiplayer experiences. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, released in 2022, managed to outperform five other PS5 Call of Duty titles to claim third place.
For single-player adventures, the leaderboard showcases the lasting appeal of certain titles. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla remains firmly in first place, demonstrating its enduring popularity since the console’s debut. The 2022 sequel God of War Ragnarök, a PlayStation exclusive, captured the second position. Hogwarts Legacy, which launched in 2023, rounds out the top three as the newest release on the list.
The anniversary report also shed light on user engagement with the console’s features. One out of every four PS5 owners has activated at least one of the system’s twenty accessibility options. This reflects a greater emphasis on accessibility compared to earlier PlayStation models, a commitment further demonstrated by the 2023 release of the specialized Access Controller.
Sony also provided a refreshed sales milestone, announcing that 84.2 million PS5 consoles have been sold to date. This updated number, an increase from the 80 million reported in the last quarterly earnings, elevates the PS5 to the ninth best-selling console in history. This achievement places it just ahead of the Xbox 360, Microsoft’s most successful console. While the PS5 has now outsold every generation of Xbox, it still trails behind all previous PlayStation consoles in terms of total lifetime sales.
