Valve has officially announced a new Steam Machine, a TV-ready gaming system designed to bring the Steam Deck experience into the living room. Scheduled for a 2026 launch, this console-like device runs on SteamOS, the same Linux-based operating system that powers the handheld Steam Deck, but promises a significant leap in performance. Unlike the earlier Steam Machine line from 2015, this model is positioned as a dedicated home console.
The system will be available in two storage configurations: a 512GB version and a more spacious 2TB model. While official pricing remains under wraps, the higher-capacity variant is expected to carry a premium cost. Both versions include a microSD card slot for further storage expansion, offering flexibility for growing game libraries.
At its core, the hardware is built for power. It features an AMD 6-core Zen 4 CPU combined with a semi-custom AMD RDNA3 28CU graphics unit. This is backed by 8GB of GDDR6 VRAM and 16GB of DDR5 system memory. Valve states this configuration delivers performance six times greater than the Steam Deck. The machine is capable of 4K gaming at 60 frames per second, though achieving this target requires the use of AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) upscaling technology. The hardware also supports advanced visual features like ray tracing.
Connectivity is comprehensive, with ports including DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.0, a 1 Gbps Ethernet jack, a USB-C 10 Gbps port, and four USB-A ports. It also features 2×2 Wi-Fi 6E and a dedicated Bluetooth antenna. The system will be compatible with a wide range of PC peripherals, including popular PC controllers, and will work with a newly revealed Steam Controller that can be purchased separately or as part of a bundle.
Aesthetically, the console includes a customizable LED bar that can show a color, animation, or system status of your choice. It also appears to support swappable face plates, allowing users to personalize its appearance. The power supply is internal, contributing to a cleaner setup.
