ModRetro is expanding its Chromatic Classics Collection with two exciting new Game Boy Color titles, Croc: 25th Anniversary Edition and Buck and the Cursed Cartridge, both launching through the ModRetro store and GameStop. Following the successful release of a modern Rayman title earlier this year, the company is now honoring a beloved reptile and a popular retail mascot with fresh cartridge-based adventures.
Croc: 25th Anniversary Edition revives the charming platformer originally released in 2000. Preorders begin on October 31, playfully dubbed Croctober 31 by enthusiasts, with shipping expected by December 2025. Priced at $45, this side-scrolling journey includes more than 30 levels spanning four distinct worlds. Players guide Croc as he confronts the villainous Baron Dante and his underlings, with this updated version offering refined controls and improved save functionality for a smoother experience.
Buck and the Cursed Cartridge introduces a fast-paced run-and-gun platformer starring GameStop’s rabbit mascot. The story follows Buck after he discovers a mysterious cartridge that pulls him into its dangerous digital realm. Gamers can expect intense multi-stage boss encounters, unlockable abilities, and even classic cheat codes. Also priced at $45, this title will be available starting October 31.
A key advantage of these new releases is their full compatibility with original Nintendo Game Boy Color systems, as well as FPGA-based handhelds like the Analogue Pocket. Despite the modern ModRetro Chromatic branding, they are designed to function seamlessly on classic hardware. The ModRetro Chromatic handheld itself, which faithfully recreates and enhances the Game Boy Color experience, recently received new inventory. Shoppers can select between a $200 model featuring scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass or a premium $300 version built with Sapphire Glass and highly durable materials.
Earlier this year, ModRetro also revealed plans for a contemporary homage to the Nintendo 64 console. While a specific launch date has not been announced, an early-bird preorder price of $199 is currently available for interested fans.
