Pixel Android 16 QPR2 Beta 3.1 Update Now Rolling Out

▼ Summary

Android 16 QPR2 Beta 3.1 is a patch for Pixel devices that failed to boot when “Enable desktop experience features” was enabled before installation.
– The update is available in two versions: BP41.250916.010 for Pixel 6, 6 Pro, and 6a, and BP41.250916.010.A1 for all devices.
Google provides recovery options for affected devices, including letting the system recover to Beta 2, sideloading the new OTA, or performing a factory reset.
– Beta 3 fixed many issues but introduced a bug causing the loss of other lockscreen clocks.
– Google is expected to release a larger bug fix update in the coming weeks.

Google has initiated the rollout of Android 16 QPR2 Beta 3.1, a targeted patch designed specifically for Pixel devices that encountered boot failures under certain conditions. This minor update addresses a critical issue where phones became stuck and unable to start up if the “Enable desktop experience features” option was activated in the developer settings prior to installing the previous Beta 3 release.

Identified by build numbers BP41.250916.010 for the Pixel 6, 6 Pro, and 6a, and BP41.250916.010.A1 for all other supported devices, this patch is remarkably small. For a Pixel 9a already operating smoothly on Beta 3, the download is a mere 2.64 MB. It is important to note that Google had withdrawn the original over-the-air (OTA) update last week, and the official release notes have not yet been refreshed to include details for this new Beta 3.1 version.

For users whose devices are currently stuck in a bootloop, Google has provided a set of recovery instructions. The most straightforward solution is to simply wait, as the system may automatically revert itself to the stable Beta 2 version after several unsuccessful boot attempts. If you had previously enabled USB debugging for ADB access, you can sideload the new OTA package directly. Should you find yourself on the Android Recovery screen, performing a factory reset or a wipe from the Rescue mode are the available options to restore functionality.

While the prior Beta 3 update resolved numerous other bugs, it introduced a separate issue causing some lockscreen clock styles to disappear. Google is expected to release a more comprehensive bug-fixing update in the near future to address this and other lingering problems.
